Child development is a very fascinating field of psychology. Before I decided to become a teacher, it was a field of study I was strongly thinking about pursuing a career in. The amount of cognitive development that happens from birth to late teens is staggering, and I find a lot of the information in psychology to be beneficial to helping children grow. That was the impetus for doing this project. I specifically chose sociocultural theories because their theories give the most capacity for teachers to make positive changes in their students’ lives. It emphasizes the role of modeling and scaffolding in the social, behavioural, and intellectual development of children.
